Ifeanyi O. Iwuchkwu, MD

 

Dr. Iwuchukwu received his doctor of medicine from the University of Nigeria College of Medicine in Nsukka, Enugu, in 2001.  He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York in 2006 followed by his fellowship in Neuroscience Research at St. George’s University Hospitals in Granada in 2005 and his fellowship in Neuro Critical Care at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, in 2009.  Prior to coming to Ochsner, Dr. Iwuchukwu was an Instructor in Neuro Critical Care in the Department of Neurology at the University of Chicago.  He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and he is board certified by the ABPN in Critical Care Medicine.

Research Interests

Dr. Obi has several clinical research projects in ischemic stroke; predicting outcomes in severe brain injury and status epilepticus.  In the lab, he focuses on cellular and molecular factors that influence hemorrhagic conversion of ischemic stroke in animal models and gene expression studies in following intracerebral hemorrhage.
